Days Off in England

In England, eight public holidays are spread throughout the year. On top of that, most workers receive five to six weeks of paid holiday leave, which isn't eroded by sick leave unlike most forms of American "personal time off."

The 2013 holiday calendar, in case you will be visiting, is as follows:

January 1 - New Year's Day
March 29 - Good Friday
April 1 - Easter Monday
May 6 - Early May bank holiday
May 27 - Spring bank holiday
August 26 - Summer bank holiday
December 25 - Christmas Day
December 26 - Boxing Day

Which means that our frantic efforts in the last 48 hours to send in the visa applications are somewhat in vain, since the visa processing center in New York is also closed for the current four-day weekend!

Hoping to hear for a result on Tuesday or Wednesday of next week.
